Outback here we come! Mt Isa and Alice Springs
Have you not in the school of Alice Springs heard, seen the images of Ayers Rock and the red desert all around? Has by chance someone read in the last months of the Australian city where come to a woman ten men, and switched their mayor nationwide newspaper ads, has denominated this way: "Are you a fat or ugly women and have no man Come to Mount Isa here you can also find a "? What is read here as pronounced, in the outback hard reality. While young women move into attractive coast towns (where it then is a lack of men), the real guys working in the mines in the hot heart of the country and bring copper, lead, silver and coal to light.
The Outback is like the Wild West in the USA: Everywhere men with Cowboyhuetten, huge trucks, rodeo, "Truck of the Year - Awards, huge Kuhfarmen. Large areas of arid plants, red earth, straight highway ....
Mount Isa
This town only exists because of the ansa vinegars expression, and is inconsolable eleven hour bus ride from the coast of reach. All normal travelers passed through. We stopped and looked closer. Couch Surfer Eddie took us on for two nights. The city is isolated, unattractive, and the Australian summer about 44 degrees hot day. This strutting people here doing the city a lot: Eddie, prescribing medication in the hospital gets for his 2 month contract not only an enormous amount of money, but also house and car provided. Still, he wants to leave, and I understand him well. His friends, who we met on the occasion of the great sporting event, "State of Origin" to see the same: make money and get out quickly. We looked at Mt Isa from two vantage points on off, the sun was obscured by the exhaust gases from the air. The rest was just as much worth seeing. On a visit to a reconstructed face, we did not, as the visit of an underground hospital, which was never in operation, and now the main attraction of the city. The best was the library (free internet) and the Rugby Evening with Eddie and his friends and neighbors.
Alice Springs
Some voices that we heard, suggested Alice Springs was different. After a night bus with change by 3 clock in the morning and many hundreds of miles further west we arrived. We put the clock back half an hour and played 30 minutes, which you can do but here less meaningful. Although we could with a car or bicycles a few little things look in the area, but like all the other travelers we are here to make a tour to Uluru / Ayers Rock and Kings Canyon. We opted for a three day tour, with overnight under the stars, and have to wait a day, since the tour for today (Saturday) was already booked. Sandra and I use the day to sleep off, and in detail to write blog, just as you notice :-)
We are looking forward to tomorrow so, and try to rumzukriegen today. Sandra has a little afraid of the nights in the open air, although the tour operators assure that there are no snakes would crawl over his face one night. I look forward to hiking and climbing, as well as great photos of Uluru. In Kings Canyon you can seems to swim in waterholes great!
photos on the outback and our next adventure soon!

tournament teams, talking organization, and all the rest
Buenos Dias Muchachos
Since the last planning group meeting of participants in the tournament (apparently to me, the Majorcan sun burned the brain in the set ) was so well attended, it is up to each individual to become informed, yah! It said only this: the most pleasant tasks (hookers, coke, swimming in money ...) are already taken! may take over the remaining tasks other (the dung of the gold donkey continued return ...).
To all teams who come to this blog:
now it (in time) but too small, so quick Sign paying, entry fee and be there. One or two places can still be forgiven, and whoever comes first, the painting first. So go out and look like slippers rinn into the tournament!

Magnetic Iceland, Townsville and the impact of financial crisis
After only! 4.5 hours drive we arrived in Townsville and equated with the ferry across to Magnetic Island 8km offshore Iceland. Many Australians say that people on Magnetic Iceland "funny" or "different". This prejudice can we hereby confirm only. But first things first: Arrived
The next day we had breakfast before diving nor can endure over us - I got so excited eh nothing down, and Sandra had passed the appetite in disgust ... Hoyt makes it so things like over-ripe papayas rauspuhlen from the nuclei in order to suck during the day should be good for digestion, therefore, lie between eating the seeds around .... At least, came by a few colorful birds, and somewhat distracted.
diving - that was for me always incredible! But since I know Sandra, she raved to me again and again what a great feeling it is to float on the water surface to swim with the fish and to dive into a different atmosphere. So on we went! I was lucky, and an English immersion teacher took his first half an hour for the theoretical introduction, all quite logical, and comforting. Then I was in the pool all taught at rest and under water for quite alone voiced the real thing. When the first conquest was over, then immediately hats of fun, and Sandra by the pool were happy and many pictures made.
After half an hour in the pool finished primary education. Sandra had booked a dive, and so we trudged a few hundred meters to the nearest beach, in our funny suits! Magnetic Iceland belongs, strictly speaking, been to the Great Barrier Reef, but only new at the very western edge. should therefore be the dive for Sandra just getting started, and from Townsville, we wanted to in the following days will really push into GBR .... We ran into the waves until we could no longer stand, and swam further 50 meters before we dive. Incredibly, the feeling! After I first focus on breathing, I looked around and saw for the first time in the life Live below the water surface, WowWowWow! I was overwhelmed. After a few meters, the first duke me my private diving instructor (Michelle) for the moment, we saw a giant fish and a ray. In addition many small tropical fish. And behind me appeared the most beautiful fish, Queen fish :-) If Sandra was nothing to see, she looked me in my first "steps" and was pleased with me. We dived around some reefs where fish are hiding from us, useless.
After several minutes I was able to dive around and independently, and have also discovered another same rays that looked at us interested. I beckoned to the girls, and in a relaxed atmosphere and about 4 feet deep stared at the man and rays. After 32 minutes I was cold, my air running out, and I also happy first.
Late evening we went back to Hoyt, and stated the next morning to run away early, with the Franzoesinnen, and even before breakfast. Hoyt took a bit bent to this news, but he had already purchased replacement - a new German couch surfer arrived! We warned them before, and had them back the next morning alone with the waving Hoyt. On the right you see the papayas, which grew in the front yard, and we were served up for breakfast.
The 3 girls and I were glad to get away took a breakfast in a bakery, and then to early ferry to Townsville. There we wanted to dive the following day, at the right, world famous Great Barrier Reef. All along the coast are dive schools, and local vending offers yet, but we had we actually picked up the extra for the North, since the reef is closer to the coast, and it is warmer than the south. Townsville than the "capital of North Queensland and largest city signed with a super Tagesaausflug with two dives. And now? You probably guessed - nothing came out of it! The provider of the Warlords has only one boat, and broke. A replacement boat has been given elsewhere. Another supplier told to proceed only if at least 15 people ride - Sandra was the only one who asked that day. The rest of countless providers have closed simply because of the financial crisis! Unbelievable. We would have to Cairns can go, but time, distance and the additional costs against it. We went to a night in Townsville very disappointed to the west, towards the Outback, and the coast behind us. Sandra has been very disappointed and still nibbling at the missed opportunity to see tropical fish and turtles swim giant among colorful corals ...
We hope soon, to be able to properly Fiji Diving, and console ourselves with the thought there much cheaper and longer and dive without mass tourism can be.
After only! 4.5 hours drive we arrived in Townsville and equated with the ferry across to Magnetic Island 8km offshore Iceland. Many Australians say that people on Magnetic Iceland "funny" or "different". This prejudice can we hereby confirm only. But first things first: Arrived
, we took the approximately 30 minute walk for us to reach our 70-year old host Hoyt. At first glance, we noticed nothing unusual on. Hoyt is a very friendly, open and educated man who has traveled much in his life. On the first night he took us and 2 Franzoesinnen who work on farms in Australia compared with free meals and lodging, to a very great local market. The food, fruit and vegetables, jewelry etc., are all of the inhabitants of the island against small fee made available. Very very beautiful among all the palm trees and tropical plants ...
However, on the way Hoyt fell by its nature, every 5 minutes something up from the street, on unpleasant. He has a mission to rid the island of dirt and to free all still reasonably useful from the garbage can and to take home and use it for themselves. It must have looked strange, an old man who digs in the garbage cans and 3 women and Michi, an embarrassed silence and trotting behind him ... Actually, everything so bad, he would not collect old discarded dishes set before and wash it without us! But more later.
The next morning was It bananas, papaya and oatmeal with hot water. To drink half of a tea bag black tea. The shock after breakfast, sitting with me still deep. Hoyt refuses to use detergent. Also we are allowed to use only one plate per half cup water. We then wash off with your fingers! And if you come here then know where the plates etc. and Hoyt looks very pleasurable morning to lick the plate and spoon, is a completely different. I understand his anger about waste of resources, but this goes too far here. He uses no toilet flush! But we have then operated it and did not follow his example. Because he never takes a shower at home, I wonder if not handled the ecological way of life in extreme stinginess is.
According to this morning Lichen shock experience we all start off then went snorkeling. The island has in every corner a new bay. And each bay is different. But together they have that you can snorkel there wonderful. Even just below the water surface near the beach you can admire tropical fish. As in the aquarium and the right outside your door! I was thrilled. Then we took upon ourselves to hike the island. There is a "Koala Walk" which is up on a mountain, where a former for the second World War II-built fort is executed. This path is known to be easily seen koalas. And voila, we had seen three pieces! are
On the way back We then went snorkeling again. Hoyt had already taken off in between, he had a "Skype-rendezvous" with a friend from the Ukraine - strange for a 70 year old grandpa, right? Without him, the same was all much more relaxed, and during the Franzoesinnen lay on the beach, Sandra brought with me, relaxed breathing underwater. Water is not like my element, so far! After initial difficulties, we went quite well, I saw a few Fischis, and decided then, the next day to do with a local diving school a introductory dive! Exciting!
The next big adventure was then but for now the dinner. A stew of rice and pumpkin, the same with Hoyt again Stirring spoon, which he licked smacking, great! Meanwhile, Sandra has been removed from cooking to Hoyt to help weed plucking - in the grounds of the neighbor who did not want that! Sandra has totgeschaemt itself. We decided to not have long to stay.
How Do Drag Suits Work Swimming
Airlie Beach and Whitehaven Beach
After the dream island Fraser Iceland we continue to the next dream beach. Although Airlie Beach the beach has immortalized in his name, there is no beach in Airlie! Airlie consists of 2-3 lines and is dominated by backpackers who want to the Whitsunday Islands. This is an island group of about 10 small islets. One is very famous because it has one of the finest sandy beaches with a length of about 9 km. To get there, we must become our hostel, according to a guided tour. Something we hear rumors already about other backpackers. But since we horrenten the price that included a bunch of young and drunken Aussies or Americans do not pay, would, we are after long research and infinite kilometer run, a simple ferry encountered, which again must be no, according to our hostel. This ferry cruises to easy 2 Islands, Iceland and Hamilton White Haven Iceland. What we wanted, without any animation program!
Hamilton Iceland is an island for the rich and the elderly. There are 2 mega-hotels, a small zoo, and thousands of condominiums by the sea. But what is missing is the beach! And also there was no one gaping void at the pool ... We understand to this day not know why the people buy real estate there and why the island is so hyped ... We were definitely glad when the 3 hours were over and the next ferry for the island finally took off Whitehaven.
As compensation, there was a wonderful delicious lunch buffet on board. Very well, fish, meat, everything your heart desires ..
After a very schaukligen ferry, we saw from afar the bluetenweissen sand beach and crystal clear water. was Tropical fish came right up to the beach, so they are being forced to go without a mask and without the water, clearly identified. Fantastic. After we from our Ferries with a small dinghy (Photo!) were brought to the beach, we had to enjoy 2.5 hours time, the water and the beach.
The sand is so clean and light and fluffy, incredibly, I've never been before gehsehen, oh but on Fraser Iceland, but otherwise a novelty! So I could spend hours just sitting there and the sand trickle through my fingers can make. But first I have Michi verbuddelt in the sand, the sun was so hot and we felt safe despite some cream 4 times. And in the winter autralischen! Not want to know how the summer is here ...
The water was gorgeous and not too cold ...

Are Bananas Bad If You Have Gallstones
Hervey Bay and Fraser Iceland
Hervey Bay, really only known as starting point for Fraser Iceland, the largest sand island in the world and the only one growing on the rain forest on sandy soil. Since we had back then!
evening we were picked up by our new host Troy. He lives with his elderly wife and stepson in a house to be sold. In the beginning, we the whole family was funny before, the son Locklin example, the permanently stoned (saw it on anyway) ran through the area and so persuaded that we never understood him. The woman looked very old, in contrast to Troy, and on the first night she lay in bed and watched TV and did not come to greet us. And Troy always talks of drinking beer, and had half a million different jobs and now Fischer. But in the end they were then quite nice. They set out, like real parents, all the while worried about us because we always came home very late. So quite sweet.
The first day we explored with our bikes and helmets (helmets are mandatory in Australia) the place. First we had a Fruehstueckspicknick on the pier. Then we booked a day trip for Fraser (unfortunately, I prefer not even out ..) and enjoyed the sunset on the beach with a tasty red wine.
The next day ie Fraser. With about 40 people, we sailed over to the island and took first with a 4-wheel-drive bus (made in Germany) the miles of beach along ("75-Mile Beach", and as long as was also really). Then we had to wade through a crystal clear river that winds through the rainforest and into the sea. Unfortunately, one can swim from the island is never in the sea, there are lurking everywhere sharks off the coast. We saw multi-colored sand and held out for humpback whales, but saw no. Looked for We dingoes - look like foxes, but are related to Asian wolves!
Next stop was an old ship wreck that sank before dawn, was rinsed from the beach, and beautiful rusty came up. We were allowed to get off like a Japanese tourist, for a total of 5 minutes, shoot photos, and get back!
After watching the ship and eat delicious, was the highlight of the island. A freshwater lake with the clearest water in the world (I think). The water is slightly acidic and therefore grows in the lake itself nothing. Incredibly beautiful! Of course it was very cold - but we could not stop it. I dived, I lost my contact lens and grabbed a new one goes in - full of anticipation in the morning I had already considered the eyes to keep open leg diving. Unfortunately, there were, as mentioned, nothing to see. Except in very interesting given. Sandra told me 2 minutes ago, we would need more text. Now she thinks I would blather :-)
Finally, there was a walk through the rain forest. An absolutely brilliant day!
and ugly the way back: We were promised to be back at 5:30 at the starting point in Hervey Bay. 5:30 to say the good Troy was waiting for us, and we did not have the mobile. After the bus drove past, but each of the 40 people in the wrong order to the hotels (only the driver knows why), we arrived an hour too late. Troy was not there (he had been to pick up a new couch surfers). We called a taxi. The taxi came. Troy came back. We sent the taxi away. The driver was not good (with 5 Australian dollars, he had to be appeased). Troy and Lesley threw meat to the grill and feed us properly. Then they took us to the Greyhound-night bus that took us up north!

Newcastle, Ballina and Byron Bay
Early morning we set off from Sydney. Lauren had a day taken the time to show us their old home, Port Stevens, and brought us for the next night with her friend to Newcastle. After three hours we were in Port Stevens, a beautiful small port city. From a small hill we had a brilliant view, see picture!
afternoon we went to Newcastle, on the road and saw our first wild pelican! The city offers itself through a rare blend of traditional industry and a small port city. Unfortunately, the capital of the coal industry, on the horizon piled the container ships to sail the coke to China.
name from Newcastle from us our first Greyhound! And after an hour we had seen Ayers Rock (Photo left). Next stop along the coast as Ballina, a small coastal town, as so many here, near the more famous Byron Bay. Byron is a Mecca for hippies and alternative lifestyle planet, at least according to Lonely. Actually, it looked but like most cities: a few thousand inhabitants, many surf shops and cafes, photo galleries of beach, surf and fish pictures, and of course many backpackers ...
In Ballina we had a very nice couch surfers found that we spent two great days, Mindy and Sam. Hence, the trip is very worthwhile, especially since the two are not only Byron Bay show, but we also presented an incredibly pitoresque beach walk up to the lighthouse sunset ....
But on the way north, towards the warmth, not much time left. After two nights we were already on, to Hervey Bay to visit the world largest sand island ....

Orlando Glory Hole Club
Down Under - Hello Sydney!
arrival in Australia - suddenly everything was different: the onset of winter, dark cold snap, panic at the airport because of the swine flu, and an SMS on duty: something for a beautiful site could choose to Sandra to to learn that she has again become aunt?? The Little Lea was at 6.6. Sandra was born and makes twice a proud Aunt! Two weeks ago Sandra was always tense, always looked to your mobile - now back then silence.
So, Australia: We were picked up by Lauren, our first couch surfer who has lived in Berlin with us. As we left the airport, we were quite high on the fresh, cool air that we had been missing for so long! While we Early morning through the deserted Sydney skyline went (we had a night flight), Sandra experienced a violent flashback, and had to think back on her time in Auckland, New Zealand, then 2002nd While Sandra finds Auckland looks so like Sydney, but in small, remember the architecture, the cars, the more of my products, etc. Time in the U.S., then in 1995 we have grown old man, oh God .... In the three days we spent
with Lauren and her brother, we saw next to the famous beaches (Bondi Beach, image below) is particularly Sydney's inner city, and an impressive skyline, but even more from the port with the Harbour Bridge and the Opera will be minted. Everything is clean, orderly, and everywhere are public toilets with toilet paper! From the beginning, we realized instantly that nothing would be so, as in Asia. We realized that we are in the three months in Southeast Asia sometimes so used to the local poverty, the chaos and backwardness had some, they are no longer so special auffiehl ... can mean little things make
But the big difference of the Worlds. People give honest and clear information, not everyone wants to sell come hell or something, we can enjoy safe food. We are no longer staring at comic. On the other hand, we begin to miss some aspects, especially the daily adventure that was inevitable through all points just enumerated, and are always presented in new and interesting samples ...
On the first day it was probably the infamous Roast Sundays, a huge leg of lamb from the oven. Gabs on the second day at the beach picnic, where we were compelled to eat a Vegemite sandwich evening and a great barbeque on the balcony of Laurens friend, with a view of the skyline, and a few hearty Kanguruhsteaks. The others are recommended from an environmental point of view, the "Roos" emmi pets no methane gas, not trampled fields, and are very energy efficient, all in comparison to cattle.

We planned our trip to Australia, bought a 30 days and 10,000 km Greyhound Busspass, and then made our way slowly to the .... The Plan: High north to the Great Barrier Reef, then turn west into the outback to Ayers Rock, and untenrum back to Sydney! That everything, and much more .... in 5 weeks. Let's see!
