After the days when Jane in Katikati then we drove a few miles south, to Roturua. As you see, was our trunk full of thanks to Jane tasty vitamins that keep us healthy. Top left, the two avocados that I took risks with their lives from the tree!
On the way we are still in the morning quickly risen to a great volcano, despite the gathering clouds on horizon. This is Mt Maunganui, the front of the 50,000-inhabitant town Tauranga is located. The 250-foot climb took about an hour, and brought us a great view and growling stomachs. Remarkably, I found that German everywhere appear to recognize the world at first sight each other as German, so on the narrow and steep trails of the hill (I do my work quick break - I'm in Auckland, and Gilly's cat jumps on the desk and plays - of course with the mouse ...).
came a few hours later we will stop. The small town is Roturua the New Zealand Centre of rotten-egg stench. There are hot springs, geysers, mud pools and warm, the bubble - it looks like in hell, and smells are often too Sun We only stayed one night, because the stench was sometimes really hard. In addition, you had to pay for even high ticket prices!
The area is predominantly inhabited by the Maori, New Zealand's indigenous people. Apparently coming along well with the local :-) We have also looked at a typical Maori district, above all, a great church with Maori carvings and sculptures, and a cemetery to the lake. All very close to nature.
between all the parks we decided for "Hells Gate". Any Englishman who discovered this interesting piece of earth time, and thought it looked like the entrance to hell, and he was right. Holes lurking off the way with boiling hot water, hot water and steam hissed everywhere and stinking fumes of sulfur from the soil.
The different sections were appropriate names, all very imaginative. Gabs a geyser because unfortunately, but a mud hole threw the hot mush with gray matter about one meter high in the air. "Hells Gate" was a bit cheaper than the other parks. We had our fun in any case!
All but a day is enough to get a good impression, and since we were more interested in active sports, we moved on to Lake Taupo!
